Competency mapping is required due to the following reasons:

  3. There is a need for getting more from people rather than getting more people.
  4. Customer focus has increased; there is a need to identify and fulfill implied customer needs and expectations.
  5. There is recognition of the fact that the right kind of human resources can monitor and manage the technology, finance, market, customers, customer relationships, processes, procedures, and systems effectively.
  6. The importance of role performers vis-a-vis time management is more valued.
